Most people don’t remember that when he was alive, Jack Daniel was bottling his whiskies with age statements, including 10, 18, and even a 21-year-old version. This is the first Jack Daniel’s whiskey to carry an age statement since the end of Prohibition, and comes from barrels allowed to rest in the hot upper floors of the distillery’s barrel houses for seven to eight years before being moved to the ground floor and simmer. The nose has touches of toasted caramel, charred oak, and roasted nuts along with dry spices and hints of vanilla, molasses, and dried fruits. The taste is dry and spicy with notes of cinnamon, black pepper, and chili powder balanced by hints of toasted caramel, brown sugar, and dried fruits in the background. The finish is long, bold, and complex with a nice balance of spices, dried fruits, and oak. Wow! (August, 2021)
