Yamazakura 963 Single Mizunara Cask
Country: Japan
Region:
Type: Blended World Whisky
Bottler: Sasanokawa Shuzo
ABV: 53%
Score: 94 Points
The story behind this whisky is almost as complex as the whisky itself. It’s an 18-year-old blend of “world” malt whiskies created by Sasanokawa Shuzo and finished in a Japanese Mizunara Oak cask, with just 320 bottles available. The nose has notes of sandalwood, almond oil, incense, and Manuka honey. The taste has an excellent and complex balance of white pepper and clove spices, incense, marzipan, honey, and a hint of vanilla underneath. The finish is long and astringent with a lingering touch of white pepper and a hint of dried flowers as the spice fades away. Excellent! (February, 2020)
