Woodford Reserve Very Fine Rare Bourbon. Image courtesy Woodford Reserve/Brown-Forman.This is the Winter 2020 release in the Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection series, with some of the barrels going back 17 years to when Chris Morris was named Woodford Reserve’s Master Distiller in 2003. He and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall selected a batch of rare barrels to blend for this release, which is also the first to carry her name along Morris’s name. The nose has notes of tobacco, caramel, dark chocolate, and hints of brown sugar and baked apples. The taste has oak tannins balanced by baked apples, a hint of orange peel, honey, and subtle spices. The finish is long with lingering subtle touches of spices and raisin bread with orange marmalade. Excellent! (December, 2020)
