Wolfburn Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Wolfburn Distillery. The inaugural release from this distillery located in Thurso at Scotland’s northern tip was made with unpeated malt, but matured in barrels previously used for maturing Islay single malts. That gives the nose a mild smokiness with notes of grilled pineapples and peaches, along with a nice maltiness and hints of banana and coconut in the background. The taste is peaty and phenolic, but surprisingly light and fruity with good notes of grilled pineapples and peaches, coconut, banana, and allspice. The finish is smooth and gently fading with a nice smoky touch. An excellent debut! (June, 2016)
