This is the third release in the Master’s Keep series, and Master Distiller Eddie Russell took the inspiration for it from Jimmy Russell’s Wild Turkey Sherry Signature edition released in the early 2000s. While that whiskey had some sherry added to it, Eddie decided to use 20-year-old Oloroso Sherry casks imported from Spain as finishing casks for his blend of 12 to 15-year-old Bourbons.
The nose has notes of black cherries, raisin bread, orange peel, and brown sugar. The taste has good spices balanced by fruitiness and a hint of oak, as black pepper and chili powder complement notes of black cherries, candied orange slices, raisins, and a hint of apricots. The long finish fades away gently with a good fruitiness and a touch of honeycomb. Excellent! (June, 2018)
