Westland Winter 2016
Country: USA
Region: Washington
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 50%
Score: 89 Points
This is the first in an annual series of limited-edition releases from Seattle’s Westland Distillery, and uses a combination of peated Scottish malt and locally-grown malts matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, and virgin oak casks. The nose is smoky and full of dried fruits with plum, apricot, a hint of marzipan, crème brûlée, cocoa, and oak notes. The taste is smoky and phenolic with a hint of creosote and notes of charred oak, honey, plum, apricot, and cocoa. The finish is long and smoky with a subtle touch of dried fruits. (February, 2017)
