W.L. Weller Special Reserve Bourbon. Image courtesy Buffalo Trace. This wheated Bourbon shares the same mashbill and heritage as the Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve whiskies, but is matured for a younger period of time. The nose has notes of caramel, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, muted spices, and a touch of oak. The taste is smooth and sweet with honey, butterscotch, caramel, a hint of brown sugar, hints of clove and nutmeg, and a nice woodiness. The finish is long and honey-sweet. (January, 2016)
