Virginia Distillery Company Brewer's Batch #1. Image courtesy Virginia Distillery Company. This blended malt from the Virginia Distillery Company takes its blend of in-house malt whisky and malt whisky exported from Scotland, then finishes it for 12 months in casks that were used to mature a “Wee Heavy” beer from Three Notch’d Brewing. The nose has notes of cocoa, toffee, dark chocolate, oak, and a subtle maltiness. The taste is malty with slowly building spices that don’t overpower touches of vanilla, cocoa, and toffee for a nice balance and understated, elegant flavor. The finish is subtle, but long with lingering spices and a nice balance of toffee and honey notes. (August, 2018)
