Usquaebach An Ard Ri Blended Malt. Image courtesy Cobalt Brands. This cask-strength blended malt comes largely from distilleries in the Highlands and was blended by Stewart Laing of Hunter Laing & Co. The nose has notes of orange peel, allspice, cardamom, dried apples and banana chips, clover honey, and pipe tobacco. The taste is intensely peppery at first with white pepper, allspice, clove, and cardamom notes, while honey, orange peel, banana chips, and a hint of coconut add balance. The finish is long and slightly astringent with lingering spices and dried fruits. (November, 2016)
