The Tweedale Blend Batch #3. Image courtesy Stonedean Ltd. Alasdair Day tweaked his great-grandfather’s blending recipe just a bit for this one, adding in some older malts while still keeping the overall blend at 50% malts and 50% grain whiskies. The nose starts off malty with notes of ginger and nutmeg, along with linseed oil, toasted oak, and a hint of cinnamon that builds up slowly with patience. The taste is spicy and rich with an underlying maltiness, cinnamon and ginger spices, and touches of black licorice and fudge. The finish is dry and medium-length with lingering spicy notes. Very nice. (May, 2013)
