The Macallan Concept Number 1. Image courtesy The Macallan/Edrington.This is a travel retail exclusive, and turns the usual Macallan house style on its head just a bit. The whisky is first matured in the usual ex-Sherry casks, but then spends an equal amount of time in ex-Bourbon casks. The nose has notes of honey, caramel, candied fruits, banana, and muted spices. The taste is fruity with spices that build up to a crescendo of cinnamon, clove, and white pepper, while honey, caramel, and cooked bananas add balance in the background. The spices fade for a long, fruity finish.
