The Lost Distillery Company Lossit Blended Malt. Image courtesy The Lost Distillery Company. The first release from The Lost Distillery Company, which researches the history of long-gone distilleries in Scotland and tries to recreate their specific styles of whisky using modern-day blending techniques. Lossit’s stills ran on Islay from 1817 to 1867, and as one might expect, the modern Lossit has a smoky and peaty character. The nose is smoky, phenolic, and slightly medicinal with notes of peat and driftwood smoke, heather, honey, vanilla, and hints of oak and lemon zest. The taste is smoky and tart with lemon pepper, peat smoke, oak, honey, heather, vanilla, and a hint of fruits in the background. The finish is long, smoky, and peppery with touches of grilled fruits.
