In 2020, The Last Drop bottled three nearly identical casks of 1970 Glenrothes as single-cask bottlings, and if you’re fortunate enough to taste more than one, it’s a way to see that each cask of whisky has its own individual character. The ex-Bourbon barrels were numbered #10586, #10588, and #10589, and were kept together throughout their entire maturation period while intended for blending use at some point before they wound up with The Last Drop’s team.
Cask #10588 has a nose rich with orange marmalade, vanilla beans, Manuka honey, a touch of smoke, and a good maltiness. The taste – wow! Great fruity character with apricots and orange peel balanced by touches of oak tannins, vanilla beans, barley sugar, and a hint of spice that lasts through the long finish along with touches of tropical fruits and a hint of oak. Outstanding! (June, 2020)
