ABV: 40%

Score: 87 Points

The Hilhaven Lodge. Image courtesy Diageo. This is a unique whiskey blended from Straight Bourbon, Rye, and Tennessee whiskies, putting it into the category of a “Blended American Whiskey.” However, it’s far more complex than the usual blends that are associated with that genre. The nose has subtle spices, clove, pipe tobacco, leather, fudge, and oak notes. The taste starts off smooth at first, followed by a spicy kick of clove and black pepper with subtle touches of vanilla, fudge, and oak in the background. The finish is long and dry with lingering spices. (June, 2016)
