The Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve
Country: Scotland
Region: Speyside
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 40%
Score: 89 Points
This is an unusual expression from The Glenrothes. It’s not made with peated malt, but takes the 1992 Vintage and finishes it in casks previously used by an Islay distillery, and is a throwback to the 1880’s when the distiller’s owners also owned an Islay distillery.
The nose is smoky, but with a good balance of honey, figs, lemon zest, vanilla, and brown sugar notes. The taste is smoky and tart with notes of grilled peaches, allspice, a hint of clove, lemon zest, and a soft oakiness. The finish is long with a good balance of fruitiness and smoke. (August, 2016)
