The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch #5. Image courtesy The Balvenie/William Grant & Sons. The Balvenie’s longtime malt master, David Stewart, created this batch in his Tun 1509 marrying tun by blending 29 different casks of whisky for three months. The nose has notes of figs, toffee, crystallized ginger, red apples, soft spices, and honey. The taste has a good balance of spices and fruitiness with allspice, a hint of ginger, white pepper, and touches of red apples, honey, and toffee. The finish is long and creamy with gentle spices and hints of red apples and toffee. Excellent! (November, 2019)
