The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch #4. Image courtesy The Balvenie/William Grant & Sons.Malt Master David Stewart created this version of Tun 1509 with 12 American Oak casks and 11 European Oak casks, and the result is a whisky with a nice maltiness on the nose, along with citrus fruits, honeycomb, vanilla, a subtle hint of toffee, and dried apricots. The taste has those same dried apricots, along with red apples, a hint of banana, clover honey, and touches of ginger and cinnamon leading into the finish. The subtle spices contribute to a long, gentle finish with honey and vanilla providing a nice balance. (October, 2017)
