The Balvenie DCS Compendium 1973. Image courtesy William Grant & Sons. After 43 years in a European Oak ex-Oloroso Sherry cask, this single malt from Chapter 3 of The Balvenie’s DCS Compendium series defies description. We’ll try, though…the nose has notes of figs, toffee, orange peel, Christmas cake, and soft, muted spices that preserve the distillery’s character. The taste is very subtle and smooth with notes of clover honey, molasses, brown sugar, Christmas cake, toffee, and orange peel. Those same notes last through the very long and gentle finish. Outstanding! (November, 2017)
