This may be the first independent bottling of whisky from Finland’s Helsinki Distilling Company. It’s a 2-year-old Rye whisky, and the nose has notes of rye bread, a hint of toasted caramel, sawdust, dry spices, and dark chocolate. The taste is spicy with clove and a hint of cinnamon balanced nicely by dark chocolate, rye bread, and hints of honey and toasted caramel. The finish has lingering spices with hints of dark chocolate and honey. It’s young, but shows lots of promise for the future. (December, 2020)
