That Boutique-y Whisky Company Glenrothes Batch 5. Image courtesy TBWC/Atom Brands. This is a 20-year-old Glenrothes matured in an ex-Bourbon cask, and if you’re familiar with the distillery’s official bottlings that tend to come from ex-Sherry casks, you’ll realize how unusual this one is. The nose has notes of honey, vanilla, a soft oakiness, and muted spices. The spices come out on the palate, though, with clove and cinnamon balanced nicely by honey, vanilla, and cocoa. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly tart. Wow! (February, 2019)
