Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This single malt from the 2018 Diageo Special Releases series is a throwback to the 8-year-old Talisker bottlings of the past, and is matured in heavily-charred first-fill American Oak hogsheads. The nose has a good balance of oak and spice with hints of allspice and nutmeg, grilled fruits, and a slight earthiness with hints of garden soil and sautéed mushrooms. The taste is dry and woody at first, followed by an explosion of black peppercorns that fade slowly to reveal honey and toffee notes. The finish is very long with lingering spices.
Now for the bad news…it won’t be sold in the United States, but will be available elsewhere on a limited basis. (September, 2018)
