10-year-old American single malts have usually been almost as hard to find as unicorns, but we’re starting to see more of them. This is the second annual release of Mountain Angel from Stranahan’s in Denver, Colorado, and the nose has notes of toasted caramel, honey, soft oak, and cocoa powder. The taste is thick and chewy with black pepper, clove, and cinnamon complemented by honey, caramel, and a hint of cocoa powder. The finish is long and spicy with a touch of oak. (December, 2021)
