Stonecutter Spirits Heritage Cask Whiskey. Image courtesy Stonecutter Spirits. This whiskey was originally distilled in Kentucky, then moved to Stonecutter Spirits in Vermont where it was finished in ex-Bourbon and Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks. The nose has notes of linseed oil, lemon zest, a hint of oak, and touches of caramel and red apples. The taste is thin and almost watery at first, then the spices kick in with notes of clove, cinnamon, and black pepper that eventually begin to fade and reveal sweeter caramel and honey notes that dominate the finish. One-dimensional on the spices, and lacking a bit in complexity. (March, 2017)
