Stauning Young Rye
Country: Denmark
Region:
Type: Rye
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 51.2%
Score: 84 Points
This is an unusual Rye whisky from Denmark’s Stauning made in the American tradition, right down to the use of new charred white oak barrels. However, it’s only 18 months old, according to the distillery.
The nose has notes of oak, vanilla, honey, spice, butterscotch, straw, and a hint of lemon peel. The taste is spicy and intense with cinnamon and black pepper, clove, honey, and vanilla notes – with the cinnamon sticking through the lingering, but one-dimensional finish. (February, 2014)
