West Virginia’s Smooth Ambler Distillery doesn’t release a Very Old Scout edition very often, but this 14-year-old Bourbon was a distillery-only release in October, 2018. The nose has notes of caramel, vanilla, honey, soft spices, and hints of oak. The taste is mouth-filling and intensely spicy with chili powder and black pepper notes that fade slowly to reveal caramel candy, brown sugar, and vanilla. The finish has hints of oak balanced by lingering spices and caramel candy sweetness. Excellent! (October, 2018)
