Country: Scotland

Region: Islay

Type: Single Malt

Bottler: Hunter Laing & Co.

ABV: 57%

Score: 94 Points

This is the beefed-up version of Hunter Laing & Co.’s Scarabus Islay single malt, which is bottled at 46% ABV. The nose has a nice blend of peat and campfire smoke along with hints of brine, toffee, and smoked salmon. The taste is thick and oily with a pepperiness that builds up slowly along with a gentle peatiness and hints of campfire smoke. The palate turns slightly ashy, but not enough to overpower hints of toffee, vanilla, and butterscotch candies in the background. The finish is long with a lingering pepperiness and a touch of peat ashes. (December, 2021)
