Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This Rye whiskey from Indiana’s MGP Distillery uses a different blend of rye mashbills than the regular Rossville Union Master Crafted Rye, but is still matured for between five and seven years. The nose is aromatic with baking spices, toffee, dark chocolate, and a soft oakiness. The taste is astringent and mouth-puckering at first with spicy notes of clove, allspice, and cinnamon. Gentle touches of sweetness and dried fruits add balance in the background, and adding a little bit of water helps bring out the fruitiness. The finish is long, dry, and spicy. I liked this one enough to buy a bottle to bring home, since it’s only available in 12 Midwestern US states for now. (October, 2018)
