Distiller Michael Swanson of Far North Spirits grew the rye for this whiskey on his farm in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border before distilling and maturing it using a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels and ex-Sherry and Cognac finishing casks. The result is a spicy and warm whisky with a good balance of clove, allspice, honey, vanilla, and molasses on the nose. The taste is spicy with clove, allspice, cinnamon, and a hint of ginger balanced by touches of oak, vanilla, honey, and a hint of linseed oil in the background. The finish is short and dry with lingering spices. (July, 2016)
