This whiskey from Kentucky’s Barrel House Distilling has notes of charred oak, vanilla, honey, leather, pipe tobacco, and dark chocolate on the nose, while the palate has an intense spiciness with black pepper and chili powder that fades to reveal honey, brown sugar, and vanilla underneath. The finish is long, dry, and spicy. Water opens up the sweetness and tempers the spices nicely. (September, 2017)
