Redbreast Small Batch “D”
Country: Ireland
Region:
Type: Single Pot Still
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 58.9%
Score: 94 Points
This is one of four special Redbreast Small Batch editions produced in 2019 for retailers in Massachusetts and California, and while all four are 14 years old, they’re blended to be slightly different from each other using two different types of Midleton’s single pot still spirit and a combination of ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks.
Batch “D” uses a combination of whiskey matured completely in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and whiskey that was re-casked into Oloroso casks after starting out in Bourbon barrels. The nose has a soft oakiness with notes of honey, vanilla, muted spices, and a hint of cocoa. The taste is thick and chewy with oak tannins, intense spices, hints of honey and vanilla, along with a touch of garden herbs in the background. The finish is dry and slightly astringent with long-lasting spices, a hint of oak tannins, honey, and vanilla. Excellent! (October, 2019)
