Type: Single Pot Still
Score: 93 points
This is one of four special Redbreast Small Batch editions produced in 2019 for retailers in Massachusetts and California, and while all four are 14 years old, they’re blended to be slightly different from each other using two different types of Midleton’s single pot still spirit and a combination of ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks.
Batch “C” spent all of its time in ex-Sherry casks, and the nose is creamy and gentle with a soft butteriness and touches of honey, dried flowers, muted spices, and vanilla. The taste starts off with oak tannins and licorice as classic pot still spices gradually build up and take over the palate while sweeter hints of tropical fruits, vanilla, and honey add complexity in the background. The finish is long and spicy with a nice oakiness and a hint of vanilla. (October, 2019)
