Redbreast Small Batch. Image courtesy Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard. This is one of four special Redbreast Small Batch editions produced in 2019 for retailers in Massachusetts and California, and while all four are 14 years old, they’re blended to be slightly different from each other using two different types of Midleton’s single pot still spirit and a combination of ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks.

This batch started out in Bourbon barrels, and was then re-casked into Oloroso Sherry casks to emphasize the Sherry influence while still retaining some of the original character. The nose has notes of toffee, figs, raisins, muted spices, cocoa, hints of tree fruits, vanilla, and honey. The taste has a great balance of clove, white pepper, cinnamon, toffee, oak tannins, and hints of cocoa and honey. The spices last and last on the finish with hints of sweetness in the background.
