This is a one-time only 2021 release to mark the 50th anniversary of the last time the Redbreast 10 was available in Ireland in 1971, and is matured in a combination of Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks. The idea was to replicate as closely as possible the character of that original whiskey, with a very complex and earthy nose that has hints of old leather, brown sugar, roasted almonds, subtle baking spices, touches of figs, raisins, plums and oak…and even traces of mint and menthol. The taste has a great balance of oak and baking spices complemented by figs, marzipan, and blackberries. Adding a little water will bring out touches of chocolate as well. The finish is long and fades away gently with a nice fruity sweetness and hints of brown sugar and oak. Here’s hoping the Redbreast team decides to make more of this one in the future! (March, 2021)
