Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2021 Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Bruichladdich. This release comes from barley grown on eight Islay farms during 2011 and distilled in 2012, with maturation in a combination of 75% first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels and 25% second-fill wine casks. The nose has a gentle smokiness along with touches of apple cobbler, caramel candies, sea salt, and a hint of dried heather. The taste has a nice smokiness with touches of campfire ashes, grilled fruits, sea salt, and smoked salmon. The finish is long with a gentle smokiness that fades away softly.
