Old Pulteney Huddart. Image courtesy Old Pulteney. This no-age-statement Old Pulteney debuted in 2018, and is matured in ex-Bourbon casks before being finished in refill casks previously used for peated Scotch whiskies. Those casks give a nice hint of peat smoke on the nose, along with touches of heather, gorse, muted spices, and a soft oakiness. The taste has a good balance of spices and peat smoke at first, but the peat comes alive slowly to take over with a hint of salted caramel underneath. The finish is long with a lingering smokiness, a slight touch of brine, and gently fading spices. Excellent! (December, 2018)
