Old Perth Victoria Whisky Festival 2020 Bottling. Image courtesy The Strath/Victoria Whisky Festival. This blended malt from Scotland’s Morrison & Mackay was created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Victoria Whisky Festival in 2020. There’s no age statement, but the whiskies in the blend come from Caol Ila, Auchroisk, Blair Athol, and an undisclosed Speyside distillery in a mix of ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks. The nose has a hint of peat smoke along with grilled fruits, apple pie, nutmeg, and a nice maltiness. The taste starts off syrupy-sweet, followed by a burst of white pepper, coriander seeds, and cardamom. As the spices start to fade, there’s a nice apple pie fruitiness and hints of figs and dates in the background with a slight hint of peat smoke. The finish has lingering spices and fruity touches with an excellent balance and just a kiss of smoke. Excellent! (November, 2019)
