Navazos Palazzi "Bota Punta" Cask Strength. Image courtesy PM Spirits. This Spanish single malt started out at the DYC Distillery and was finished in a “bota punta” Oloroso Sherry cask. “Bota punta” is the term for the cask at the beginning of the bottom row of barrels in a Sherry solera, which exposes it to more air and light than the other barrels in the solera racks.

The nose has notes of brandy, barley sugar, toffee, dates, and a hint of marzipan. The taste has a good balance of spices and fruit, with notes of dark fruits complemented by cardamom, a hint of clove, and touches of barley sugar and honey in the background. The finish is long, but subtle with touches of tree fruits, Manuka honey, and spice. Very nice and complex. (July, 2018)
