Montgomery American Single Malt. Photo by Chris LaTray courtesy Montgomery Distillery. This whiskey from Montgomery Distillery in Missoula, Montana is an annual release that’s hard to find. The first edition was released in November of 2016 after three years of maturation, and this one is the second release a year later at four years old. The nose is malty and grainy with notes of popcorn, barley sugar, honey, lemon zest, and a hint of linseed oil. The taste is malty and smooth with gentle spices, barley sugar, honey, vanilla, and a hint of cocoa beans. The finish is long and sweet with honey and a subtle fruitiness balanced by gentle spices in the background. (August, 2018)
