Milam & Greene’s Heather Greene took this rye whiskey from MGP and put a Portuguese touch on it by finishing it in vintage Port wine casks from Portugal in the rickhouses at Ben Milam Distillery in Blanco, Texas. The nose is smooth and honey-sweet with subtle hints of baking spices, black cherries, and charred oak. The taste is thick, chewy, and spicy with clove and cinnamon notes complemented nicely by honey, ginger, dark chocolate, and vanilla for an excellent balance and complexity. The finish has nice touches of dark chocolate and honey with soft spices in the background. (September, 2019)
