Type: Irish Whiskey
Score: 97 points
This rare Irish whiskey (117 bottles) was produced to mark the 30th anniversary of the Midleton Very Rare range of whiskies, and was created in a collaboration between retired Master Distiller Emeritus Barry Crockett and his successor, Master Distiller Brian Nation. They blended a cask of grain whisky from 1981 and a cask of pot still whiskey from 1984 to create a classic whiskey.
The nose is minty and fresh with notes of honey, gingerbread, and oak. The taste is complex, yet smooth with a great balance of spices and fruit. Orange peel and peach nectar notes are balanced by hints of cinnamon, spearmint, vanilla, honey, toasted oak, toffee and butterscotch to create a full-bodied rich flavor. The finish is dry and smooth with touches of licorice, subtle spices, honey, vanilla, toasted oak, brown sugar, and orange peel. An amazing whiskey! (October, 2014)
