Midleton 1973
Country: Ireland
Region:
Type: Irish Pot Still
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 56%
Score: 95 Points
This 30-year-old Irish pot still whiskey was distilled at Midleton in 1973 and bottled in 2003 after maturing in a combination of ex-Bourbon, Sherry, and Port casks.
The nose is light and crisp with red apples and grapes, hints of toffee, cocoa, vanilla, and a touch of oak. The taste is spicy and thick with cinnamon, red apples, honey, a hint of clove, lemon zest, and touches of red grapes and oak. The finish is long and lingering with spices that softly fade away to reveal honey, vanilla, and a touch of toffee. Outstanding! (October, 2014)
