Lot No. 40 Canadian Whisky. Image courtesy Corby Spirit & Wine. This Canadian whisky is made from 90% unmalted rye and 10% malted rye, and brings back one of Corby’s old Canadian Whisky Guild series of whiskies from the 1990’s. It has improved from when it was first revived in 2012 with the addition of a couple of more years of maturation in 100% virgin oak barrels, and won Canadian Whisky of the Year in the 2013 and 2015 Canadian Whisky Awards.

The nose is rich with notes of toasted rye bread, clove, allspice, dried apples, maple and honey with a slight nuttiness. The taste is dry and slightly astringent with a good buildup of cinnamon spice and notes of caramel, maple, and brown sugar underneath. The finish is long with lingering spicy touches of cinnamon and allspice balanced by a hint of maple. (Updated January, 2016)
