Lot 40 Cask Strength 2017 Edition. Image courtesy Corby Spirits & Wine. This 12-year-old 100% Rye whisky is first distilled in a column still, with a second distillation in a pot still at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. It’s part of Corby’s Northern Border Collection Rare Release series, and the nose is peppery with notes of clove, allspice, honey, brown sugar, and molasses, while touches of caramel, toffee, and cocoa add balance. The taste is woody, well-balanced, and robust with a hint of campfire smoke, clove, allspice, black pepper, honey, brown sugar, and caramel notes. The finish is long, peppery, and woody. Excellent!
