This peated single malt was distilled at Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in 1972, and is the oldest bottling of Ledaig on record at 42 years old. The name “Dùsgadh means “awakening” in Scots Gaelic.
The sherry casks give it a complex nose with notes of subtle wood smoke, a slight ashiness, figs, dates, and a hint of maltiness as well. The taste is dry, complex, and ever-changing – it starts off fruity and sherry-like, then the smoke and spices come alive with notes of ginger, black pepper, cocoa, and a hint of black cherries. The finish has a slight brininess that comes out to balance lingering smokiness and a hint of smoked salmon. Outstanding! (May, 2015)
