Laphroaig 30 Years Old. Image courtesy Laphroaig/Beam Suntory. This 2016 bottling is the first of a 30-year-old Laphroaig in nearly a decade, and comes exclusively from ex-Bourbon casks that accentuate the natural peaty smokiness of the whisky. The nose is peaty and phenolic with notes of creosote, smoked salmon, hints of brine and iodine, and touches of vanilla, honey, and oak underneath that provide a nice balance and complexity. The taste has a great, intense smokiness and spiciness with peat smoke, black pepper, tangy barbecue sauce, honey, oak, and a hint of brine. The finish is long, smoky, and slightly tangy with a touch of barbecue. Excellent! (March, 2017)
