Laphroaig 27 Years Old. Image courtesy Laphroaig/Beam Suntory. This limited-edition Laphroaig was matured originally in refill hogshead casks, then transferred into a combination of quarter-size casks and first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for final maturation. The nose is classic Laphroaig: peaty, phenolic, and medicinal with touches of heather, honey, and vanilla that add a nice complexity. The taste is equally peaty, phenolic, and peppery with a good smokiness, black pepper, honey, and vanilla in the background. The finish is long with a gentle smokiness. Excellent! (December, 2017)
