This is the second  Offerman Edition release for Lagavulin in collaboration with actor and craftsman Nick Offerman, and like the first Offerman Edition release, it’s an 11-year-old single malt. However, this one is finished in casks from the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland. The nose reminds me of an Islay campfire with a wonderful peatiness and heather, while the Guinness casks add hints of freshly roasted coffee beans, honey, and a hint of baking chocolate. The taste starts off creamy and sweet with touches of caramel and honey, followed by a gentle burst of peat smoke and spices that don’t overwhelm the sweetness. Hints of coffee beans, dark chocolate, and heather linger in the background. The peaty character takes over on the finish as the sweeter notes start to fade away, leading to a classic Lagavulin finish. Excellent! (May, 2021)
