Lagavulin 25 200th Anniversary Edition. Image courtesy Diageo. This limited-edition release features the names of every Lagavulin manager over the last 200 years, and was matured in European Oak casks. The nose is warm and aromatic with muted spices, a gentle smokiness, and touches of honey, heather, and red apples. The taste is spicy and smoky with cinnamon and black pepper notes, followed by a nice peatiness that develops slowly and fills the mouth. Hints of anise, vanilla, and honey in the background add balance. The finish is long and smoky, but not overpowering, with hints of honey, vanilla, and a slight ashiness. (October, 2016)
