This is the first mature whisky released by Finland’s Kyrö Distillery, and is made from malted rye first matured for three years in new American Oak casks, with additional time in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels followed by Marsala wine casks. The nose has notes of clove, nutmeg, honey, vanilla, pipe tobacco, and a good oakiness stemming from the three different types of casks used in maturation. The taste has great spicy notes of clove, black pepper, and cardamom balanced by honey, orange peel, and vanilla underneath. The finish is long and mouth-watering with lingering spices and a hint of citrus fruits. An excellent debut! (December, 2017)
