Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This heavily peated single malt was bottled for the 2021 Campbeltown Malts Festival’s online tastings, and spent five years in an Oloroso Sherry cask. The nose has notes of dark fruits, peat smoke, driftwood, smoked salmon, dark honey, and a hint of lemon zest. The taste is dark, spicy, and well-rounded with a good smokiness and hints of clove, allspice, and dark fruits. Adding water is recommended, and smoothes out the spices while allowing hints of butterscotch and chocolate to come out of hiding. The finish is long with lingering spices and smoke balanced by a gentle touch of fruits in the background. Excellent! (July, 2021)
Special thanks to Matt Lurin and the Water of Life Festival for making this sample available.
